The play has the following roles (name & suggested age)
Eleanor (30+)
An English teacher-turned-writer who has just finished her first book (a romance novel). Mid 40s. She is intelligent, realistic, independent, and doesn’t like a fuss. Despite their initial romance, Eleanor is now unhappily married to Victor who she maintains she did not marry just for the money. She is good friends with both Addison and Kim and is frustrated that they don’t get along. Eleanor is having an affair with Sinclair, but has told nobody about this.
Addison (26+)
A publicist. Late 40s or early 50s. She is constantly keeping up appearances. Addison has been in a very long-term relationship with Geoffrey, but they remain unmarried. Eleanor is her best friend, but she despises Kim.
Kim (26+)
A drama teacher. Early 40s. She is eccentric and wears her emotions on her sleeve. She’s a good sort, but her quirky ways tend to get her into difficult situations. Kim is dating Sinclair. Eleanor is her best friend, but she does not get along with Addison at all. Kim and Victor shared a meaningless fling years earlier, which has never been mentioned again.
Geoffrey (30+)
A therapist who dabbles in a range of methods including art therapy and meditation. Older than Addison. He is unaware that he sometimes gets on people’s nerves. Despite all that goes on around him, Geoffrey remains a calming and happy influence on the group.
Victor (40+)
A therapist who dabbles in a range of methods including art therapy and meditation. Older than Addison. He is unaware that he sometimes gets on people’s nerves. Despite all that goes on around him, Geoffrey remains a calming and happy influence on the group.
Sinclair (20+)
Younger than Eleanor and Kim. A ruggedly-handsome, confident type.
Robert (30+)
Mid 40s. A police analyst who has long-aspired to be a detective. The fact that he is not actually a police officer is a sensitive topic.
Amanda (26+)
Mid 40s. A stay-at-home mum who fears she no longer fits in with her friends and is desperate to have a “normal” evening out with other adults.
Mary (18+)
Older. Addison and Geoffrey’s nosy neighbour. She is president of the neighbourhood watch committee and rather prudish.
Chris (18+)
A mechanic.
Written by George Arthur, the play tells the story of a group of highly-dysfunctional friends invited to a dinner party one evening to celebrate the publication of Eleanor’s first book.
Various disagreements ensue, then one of the guests stumbles into the room and is quickly pronounced dead.
Efforts to hide the body are thwarted by visits from a nosey neighbour, a poorly timed mechanic, and the arrival of their final guests.
Chaos and panic drive the play, with twists and turns throughout.
